Suryakumar Yadav’s Evolution from Mr. 360 to Mr. 180 – Crafting T20 Magic with an ODI Finisher’s Touch

Indian T20 stalwart Suryakumar Yadav has been quite candid about his struggles in the 50-over format. A behemoth in the shortest format of the game, Surya has failed to match his exploits in ODIs, despite getting plenty of opportunities.

With Shreyas Iyer out of action for a major part of 2022 due to injury, Surya was entrusted by the team management to fill the void in the middle-order but the 32-year-old has failed to meet expectations.

In 24 ODI innings, SKY has managed only 511 runs at a paltry average of 24.33, which also includes three consecutive golden ducks against Australia earlier this year.

According to recent media reports, captain Rohit Sharma revealed that Shreyas Iyer’s recovery is on track. Once declared fit, Shreyas is likely to take his spot back in the ODI squad. In that case, Surya might miss out on selection for the 2023 World Cup.

When asked to comment on this in a recent press interaction, Surya candidly admitted his ODI struggles but said he is not thinking too much about World Cup selection during an ongoing series.

“You got to be honest with yourself. You can’t hide behind the bush. At the same time I am not thinking too much about what’s going to happen ahead, thinking about this series,” Suryakumar told reporters as per Hindustan Times.

After missing the ODIs and first two T20Is, Surya found form in the 3rd T20I, smashing an unbeaten 83 off 44 balls to help India chase 160 comfortably.

The stylish 360-degree hitter will look to continue his form in the T20I series decider on Sunday.
