Mumbai – An elderly man was reportedly assaulted by fellow passengers on an express train near Igatpuri, in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, under suspicion of carrying beef. The Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched an investigation following the circulation of a disturbing video of the incident on social media.
The video, which surfaced earlier this week, depicts a group of approximately a dozen individuals physically attacking and verbally abusing a man inside the train. The victim, identified as Haji Ashraf Munyar from Jalgaon district, was en route to his daughter’s house in Kalyan at the time of the assault.
According to GRP officials, the incident occurred near Igatpuri when Munyar was allegedly beaten by his co-passengers who suspected him of transporting beef. The GRP has confirmed that they are investigating the matter and have managed to identify both the victim and some of the assailants featured in the video. However, no formal case has been registered as of yet.
The GRP’s response includes reviewing the video evidence and identifying those involved in the attack. The authorities have emphasized their commitment to thoroughly investigating the situation and ensuring that justice is served. As the probe continues, the GRP has not provided further details on any potential charges or arrests related to the incident.
This case has drawn significant public attention and highlights ongoing concerns about communal tensions and violence in India. The GRP’s investigation aims to address these issues and bring clarity to the troubling event that has shaken the local community and beyond.
